Motion Development Milestones.

Wondering how long it takes to design and develop a motion project? Below is a typical timeline for the design and development of motion projects, assuming that you get back to me within 2 business days on requests for feedback, content or approval.

Initial Storyboard Concepts

After we have discussed your motion design needs, collected information, received your content as well as your signed contract and 50% deposit, I can begin designing the story board. This story board will map out the sequence in which your content will flow and can be delivered in PDF format within 1 week.

From Design to Motion

Once the storybard is approved, development can begin. This is where the images, copy and multimedia such as audio or video are combined into an animated sequence using the storyboard as reference. Keyframes are created from the beginning to help with continuity throughout the animation.

The time required for development depends highly on the length of your motion project. A typical 30 seconds motion project can usually be completed within 1-2 weeks and a 60+ seconds motion project will likely take closer to 2-3 weeks to complete. The time varies greatly on communication and delivery of content. Short motion projects such as animated ads can be done in as little as 3 business days.

Fine Tuning

You will be given access to my WorkSite where you can monitor the progress of your motion project and provide feedback or request changes. I can make revisions to the time line and the animation for your approval. Ideally I'd like to hear back from you within 1-2 business days, but some clients choose to wait a week or more. This can delay the project completion date.

After I've received your revision, you can expect a turn around time for relatively simple changes in 2 business days. Major changes to the animation or requests for an entirely new segment may take up to 1 week. I will continue this process of fine tuning the motion project until I have your complete approval.

Final Delivery

With your approval on the motion project, I will send you a final invoice for the work completed thus far. Final payment of the invoice is required before sending you all the artwork. Once the balance is received, I will immediately upload the Zipped files to your server (via FTP) or email you a link to download at your convenience. This marks the end of production on your motion project.

Regular Maintenance

Since you may need additional changes or updates to your motion project on an as-needed basis, I'm more than happy to offer this service at an hourly rate. Simple changes to your motion project are completed within 1-2 business days while larger changes can take up to 1 week.
